ROME (AP) — The Florence museum housing Michelangelo’s Renaissance masterpiece the “David” invited parents and students from a Florida charter school to visit after complaints about a lesson featuring the statue forced the principal to resign.Florence Mayor Dario Nardella also tweeted an invitation for the principal to visit so he can personally honor her. Confusing art with pornography was “ridiculous,” Nardella said. The incredulous Italian response highlights how the U.S. culture wars are often perceived in Europe, where despite a rise in right-wing sentiment and governance, the Renaissance and its masterpieces, even its naked ones, are generally free of controversy. But the board of the Tallahassee Classical School pressured Principal Hope Carrasquilla to resign last week after an image of the “David” was show to a sixth-grade art class. The school has a policy requiring parents to be notified in advance about “controversial” topics being taught. Carrasquilla believes the board t...

The largest source of stolen guns? Parked cars.

By Richard Fausset, The New York TimesNASHVILLE, Tenn. — On a Sunday in January 2022, a Glock 9 mm pistol, serial number AFDN559, disappeared from a Dodge Charger parked near a midtown Nashville bank after someone smashed in the rear driver’s side window.Ten months later, Nashville police officers arrested three teenagers suspected in a series of shootings and discovered a cache of weapons in a nearby apartment. Among them was AFDN559. Forensic analysts would later tie the Glock to three shootings, including an attack in August that wounded four youths and another that wounded a 17-year-old girl in September. In a country awash with guns, with more firearms than people, the parked car — or in many cases, the parked pickup truck — has become a new flashpoint in the debates over how and whether to regulate gun safety. There is little question about the scope of the problem. A report issued in May by the gun control group Everytown for Gun Safety analyzed FBI crime data in 271 U.S....

The top barbecue joint in every state, according to Yelp Despite the debate, the TSA continues to remain firm in its opinion that the agency "considers your PB a liquid."They categorize it as such, according to the TSA, because like a liquid, peanut butter "has no definite shape and takes a shape dictated by its container." The TSA has also previously pointed to its "general definition" for the liquid rule, which suggests that if a passenger can "spill it, spread it, spray it, pump it or pour it, then the carry-on quantit...

DENVER (KDVR) - Medina Alerts in Colorado aren't issued as often as many might believe.A representative with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said Sunday that, on average, the organization issues five to 10 alerts each year statewide. “You won't see a Medina Alert in every single hit-and-run case out there, even if it is covered in the media," Audrey Simkins, an Investigate Analyst with CBI said. She said law enforcement agencies will reach out to CBI to have the alert issued if they believe the public can help find the car or driver involved. Denver hit-and-runs on the rise “[To qualify for a Medina Alert], there has to be serious bodily injury, harm or death to the person involved in the accident and there needs to be information that an alert will be of assistance,” Simkins said. Some of the information to help in the alert she said includes a picture of the car, a license plate number or a portion of the plate. She said other good details to share if the vehicle has some ...
